The Halong-Haiphong Expressway is now officially open for traffick |
On September 1, the Halong-Haiphong Expressway and Bach Dang Bridge were officially opened for traffick.
Having a total investment capital of VND6.41 trillion ($283.6 million), the 24.6-kilometre long Halong-Haiphong Expressway connects Highway 18 in Halong city’s Dai Yen ward with the Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway.
The Expressway helps to shorten the distance between Halong and Haiphong from 75km to 25km, and between Hanoi and Halong from 180km to 130km. It will halve the travel time from Hanoi to the famous bay.
This is the first expressway in the country developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, with the investment capital coming from the province’s budget.
Besides, the VND7.66 trillion ($338.9 million), 5.4km bridge spanning the Bach Dang River, will reduce the travel distance between Hanoi and Quang Ninh from 175km to 125km. It is also the first large-scale “Made in Vietnam” bridge.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc speaking at the event |
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the Bach Dang Bridge is a clear demonstration of the self-reliant spirit, as well as the capacity in terms of technology of the Vietnamese people.
“The Halong-Haiphong Expressway will not only contribute to improving the value of Hanoi-Haiphong expressway, but will also promote regional connectivity in the 3H (Hanoi-Haiphong-Halong) development triangle. Besides, it will open more opportunities for socioeconomic development in the northern region,” the PM stated.
The PM asked Quang Ninh and Haiphong to change the investment attraction method and simultaneously improve the investment and trading environment so that the two provinces can become centres of tourism, and creativity.
