Go-Jek is expected to become a heavyweight in the ride-hailing market in Vietnam |
Go-Jek, through Go-Viet, has accelerated the final procedures for the launch.
At first, Go-Jek will supply customer transport services by automobile and motorbike before launching other services, namely Go-Food, Go-Max, and Go-Life.
The entry of Go-Jek in Vietnam is expected to benefit for both customers and drivers by breaking Grab’s domination.
According to a VIR source, Go-Viet is offering numerous advantages to lure in drivers, including ex-Uber drivers. Notably, the firm will supply free uniforms as well as an expected VND29,000 ($1.27) per route as fare support for drivers.
Vietnam is selected as the first destination in Go-Jek’s strategy to expand its operations to Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and the Philippines with a total investment capital of $500 million.
Established in 2010, Go-Jek is the leading ride-hailing app provider in Indonesia. Beside ride-hailing, it offers digital payments, food delivery, logistics, and on-demand services in its home market of Indonesia. It claims to have over 900,000 registered drivers throughout the country and says it facilitates over 100 million transactions per month.
In early 2018, Go-Jek was valued at $5 billion after the firm was rumoured to have collected investment capital from Google, JD.com, KKR, Warburg Pincus, and Tencent. Go-Jek’s valuation is on the same level with Grab’s.
