FrieslandCampina Vietnam to cut down environmental impact

FrieslandCampina Vietnam is set to reduce CO2 emissions by 40 per cent by 2030 in all production and supply activities, along with 33 per cent from partnered dairy cow farms.

FrieslandCampina Vietnam on October 25 announced an update on its sustainable development strategy with four focal areas: enhancing nutritional provision to consumers, increasing environmentally friendly packaging to 100 per cent, minimising impacts on climate change and the environment, and ensuring a better living standard for dairy farmers providing milk for the company.

“To decrease our impact on the environment, we target to reduce CO2 emissions by 40 per cent by 2030 in all of our production and supply activities. Likewise, we will reduce 33 per cent of CO2 emissions from partnered dairy cow farms,” told Hoai Vu Tran, corporate affairs director, adding that by 2025, all partnered cow farms will reach a balance in biodiversity and by 2030, all packaging used can be recycled and reused.

“Right now we have the novelist mission to feed the hungry planet with affordable and accessible high-quality nutrition”, said Kiger.

Within the next five years, the group's production chain is expected to use 45 per cent of solar power for two large factories in Binh Duong and Ha Nam.

FrieslandCampina Vietnam also commits to switch to only using clean electricity, reusing half of its treated wastewater, and produce all of its steam from biomass materials instead of fossil fuels.

The owner of dairy brands Dutch Lady, Friso, Yomost, and Fristi said they had achieved the goal of having no landfill waste from two factories operating in Vietnam.

Currently, the Dutch Lady's milk packaging is brown, made of Bio-PE material, which is derived from bagasse and is estimated to cut down 10 per cent of emissions compared with old packaging.

This, in a nutshell, is sustainability.”
