On February 10 at The One event centre Hanoi, Ngoc Anh participated in a music night called Forever Magic – a charity concert with many local singers organised by Thien Nhan & Friends, an organisation that seeks to help children with disabilities in Vietnam.

The Forever Magic live show was Ngoc Anh's message on her day of return

Composer Phu Quang once said that Ngoc Anh would be the best performer for his songs. Whenever Ngoc Anh performed in Hanoi, he played the piano for her. But now Ngoc Anh settled in the US, and the pandemic and personal issues prevented her from coming home. By the day she did eventually return, Phu Quang has gone.

However, Phu Quang left his love for music in this world. Ngoc Anh – like many other singers guided by that love – will still sing his songs.

There are things that have changed forever though, reunions and separations, but life remains the same and there will always be things that will forever be magical.

That was Ngoc Anh's message on her day of return, and also for Hanoi. After many months of social distancing, Hanoi decided to reopen, along with the eternal wonders of the city.

For the Thien Nhan & Friends Foundation, every music concert of Ngoc Anh in Hanoi in the past few years was to raise money for the surgeries of the foundation.

Its members had to suspend operations for the past two years because of the pandemic. The doctors were unable to fly to Vietnam to carry out missions with children with genital disabilities. But the foundation has decided to continue this journey in the second half of 2022, with the surgeries set to continue too. Thousands of additional children will be examined and operated on, just like it used to be the case for the past 10 years.

Thus, Ngoc Anh's music night will be the reunion for the many souls who have been accompanying Thien Nhan & Friends for many years.

The One – which used to be full of laughter and joy during events – had been silenced during the pandemic. Like the Binh Minh Group, every year, they have also supported surgeries and organised music nights for the foundation.

Singer Le Viet Anh always performed at the music nights of Thien Nhan & Friends. Together with Ngoc Anh, Mai Lan, Nguyen Quang Tu, and Khuat Thanh Thuy are singers who were raising their voices again on this stage on February 10.

Thien Nhan & Friends can thus continue to organise genital reconstruction surgeries for Vietnamese children suffering severe urological birth defects and rare conditions. The foundation also provides families with financial support and travel costs.

The project was inspired by miracle baby Thien Nhan, an infant discarded at birth and left to die in a jungle. He suffered traumatic amputation of his genitals and loss of one leg from a brutal mauling by wild animals. He has since been adopted and lives happily with his new family in Hanoi.

Having persevered through all the struggles to obtain medical assistance for Thien Nhan, Greig Craft, an American philanthropist, Tran Mai Anh (Thien Nhan’s adoptive mother), Hoang Na Huong (Thien Nhan’s godmother) and Dr. Roberto De Castro established the programme in 2011.

Since then, the voluntary delegation of Italian and American doctors led by Dr. Roberto De Castro has travelled to Vietnam and carried out 13 missions, performed 410 surgeries, and more than 1,500 evaluations.

Aside from the medical treatment, Thien Nhan & Friends, in collaboration with local hospitals, has organised four medical technical transfer conferences on urological and genital reconstruction, participated by hundreds of doctors starting in 2011 at the National Hospital of Children as well as several other hospitals around the country in the following years.

This year, Thien Nhan & Friends plans a tentative mission in October, with an estimated 50 surgeries and around 200 evaluations.
