The Dragon Bridge in central Da Nang city has won the Engineering Excellence Award (EEA) presented by the American Council of Engineering Companies.

The bridge is one of the eight projects receiving the EEA Grand Award at a ceremony held in Washington DC in the US on April 29.

As the Oscars of the engineering industry, the annual EEA programme honours the most outstanding engineering accomplishments in the year.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Deputy Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Vo Duy Khuong said the Dragon Bridge was the pride of Da Nang people and this award has doubled that pride.

Nick Ivanoff, President of Ammann & Whitney, a co-designer of the Dragon Bridge, said he was very surprised when it defeated other competing projects to win the Grand Award.

The Dragon Bridge has been praised by the jury panel for its unique design and harmonious combination between aesthetics and usability.

The 666-metre bridge, modelled after a dragon flying across the Han River, serves as the shortest link between Da Nang International Airport and the city centre.

Designed by a consortium of Ammann & Whitney and Louis Berger and built by CIENCO1, the bridge officially opened to traffic in March 2013.
