Canon Vietnam today cooperated with the Bac Ninh People’s Committee and the Youth Union of the province in holding the opening ceremony of the Nam Son kindergarten 2 in the northern province of Nam Son commune.

The 5,578 square-metre school, costing VND7 billion ($327,000), is partly funded by the local budget. The rest of the fund comes from the provincial trade union and six companies, of which Canon contributed VND300 million ($14,000). Canon also gave 100 sets of plastic desk and chair, five desks for teachers and 150 gifts of notebooks and candies to the children.

As of now phase one of the school, which cost VND4.6 billion ($215,000) and includes the main classroom building and the surrounding fence, is completed, ready to welcome 200 children aged 3-5 for the 2015-2016 school year.

“Canon is proud to contribute to bringing Bac Ninh children a new school and an improved environment to grow,” said Katsuyoshi Soma, Canon Vietnam’s general director.

“The construction of the school is a big encouragement to the teachers and students, besides helping make life easier for many local households,” said Nguyen Thi Hang, principal of the Nam Son kindergarten 2.

The Nam Son kindergarten 2, which is part of the programme Canon Friendship Schools, aims to improve the academic environment for kindergarten children in the area around industrial parks to meet the demand of young factory workers who live there.

The Canon Friendship Schools programme started in 2007 and as of now has supported 40 schools in 20 cities and provinces in the north and central regions of Vietnam by building and equipping classrooms, toilets, and giving books, notebooks, printers and computers.
