Operating for 14 years in the country, British University Vietnam (BUV) has asserted its position, quality, and outstanding reputation in the education sector by continuously improving the quality of its training, demonstrating the international standard and value of British higher education.
BUV pledges investment in quality education in Vietnam |
BUV, located in Ecopark 14km from the centre of Hanoi, is the first and only university in Vietnam and ASEAN to have been awarded accreditation from the Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency. To earn the recognition of quality, BUV has completed the International Quality Review, a rigorous procedure which benchmarks global higher education institutions against the United Kingdom’s international quality assurance standards, with the university achieving the highest level of performance in all 10 categories and outstanding accomplishments in all academic aspects.
BUV is also the first and only university in Vietnam to be awarded a five-star Excellent University rating from the internationally acknowledged Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) organisation – one of the world’s leading providers of services, analytics, and insight to the global higher education sector. Specifically, the university was awarded five stars on the criteria of teaching, employability, academic development, facilities, social responsibilities, and inclusiveness. Furthermore, BUV’s Finance and Economics programme was also honoured to receive 5-star validation from QS in the criterium of programme strength.
Professor Raymond Gordon, BUV vice-chancellor and president, said the accomplishments reaffirmed BUV’s mission, which is to develop highly employable graduates who are first and foremost good human beings with an ethic of kindness and caring.
“Graduates will also be cross-disciplinary in skills and language; innovative, imaginative, respectfully confident; and committed to continuous learning and development,” Gordon said. “BUV expects all its staff, students, and stakeholders to be courteous and care about the wellbeing of other people, respect their environment, and be socially and culturally inclusive.”
Specifically, BUV students enjoy a world-class campus with a total investment of $165 million, which will serve more than 10,000 students upon completion of all three phases. BUV campus has a liberal, iconic design for the 4.0 era, meeting the needs of international-standard educational experience with modern facilities and state-of-the-art tech.
Phase 1 of the campus has been put into operation with a total investment of $52 million, capable of training 3,000 students. Each classroom in BUV is equipped with modern educational technologies to maximise activities and enhance interaction between students and lecturers.
Specialised functional classrooms are highly invested such as those for Computer Games Design and Programming with state-of-the-art computers and other equipment, functional classrooms meeting the requirement of 5-star standard hotel for International Hospitality Management programme, and more. BUV also offers sports facilities such as a football field and basketball and badminton courts, providing mental and physical health support services.
The construction of BUV’s campus phase 2 commenced last year, with an investment of $33 million, and is expected to be completed in early 2025. Specifically, the new Student Hub and Food Court almost 4,100 square metres has gone into operation in early 2023 while a sports complex and academic building with multi-functional classrooms and learning halls will be accomplished in the next two years.
In addition to investment in facilities, BUV also strives to provide international learning experiences to students, particularly the Personal and Social Growth programme to deliver comprehensive skills in the 4.0 era, which helps students become well-prepared for their employability and future careers.
“BUV is committed to turning young Vietnamese students into talented and respectful adults that are confident and caring, but most importantly, prepared to lead the way and thrive in a challenging and exciting future in which the jobs and roles they will play are yet to be invented,” Gordon said.
BUV Scholarship and Financial Aid Fund was founded to increase access of Vietnamese students to the British education system, and contribute to a generation of young talents with professional knowledge and comprehensive skill sets. The fund, worth approximately $2 million, has supported and encouraged students with high academic performance and relevant experience in community work, and the potential to become future leaders in the public sector, business, or academia.
“Thanks to the outstanding reputation and quality, students and parents come to BUV to learn more about the learning model here and show their interest to study here,” said Gordon. “Numerous universities in the UK and other developed countries are also intending to explore the business environment in Vietnam’s education sector.”
“I believe that in the future, there will be more high-class and high-quality universities coming and operating in Vietnam. And BUV will continue to build links with Vietnamese partners for the training of intellectual human resources,” he added.
