The bus, run by the firm, better known as Phuong Trang, hit seven motorbikes running in the opposite direction when approaching a flyover at Cay Go Roundabout in District 6, causing one falling off the flyover and injuring eight others.
The victims included the 14-month-old Bui Nguyen Vy Quynh, the youngest victim who has died at Ho Chi Minh City’s Children Hospital 1 due to serious multiple injuries caused by the bus.
Quynh was brought to the hospital by Dao Thai Ha Minh Khuong, the driver of the bus, right after the accident.
Khuong, 35, told the police that he rushed Quynh to the hospital right after seeing her before returning to the police for reporting.
Quynh was on a motorbike with her parent, Nguyen Thi Thuy Tien, 19, and Bui Thanh Thao, 30, when being hit by the bus from behind. Both Tien and Thao have already been hospitalized after the crash which made Tien fly over the railing of the overpass to hit the ground from the height of around 10 meters.
Meanwhile, according to Cho Ray Hospital, Pham Ngoc Sang, 29, who has been receiving treatment at the infirmary, was still unconscious and in a serious status.
Four others who were not seriously injured were discharged from the hospital in the evening, according to the hospital.
Vo Quoc Binh, deputy CEO of Ho Chi Minh City-based firm, said the bus was carrying the firm’s employees to Mien Tay Coach Station.
Phuong Trang’s employees have been dispatched to the hospitals to be ready to support medical expenses for the victims, Binh told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
