In August, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City signed an agreement with AstraZeneca Vietnam to promote medical education and enhance scientific research capacity from now to 2028, aiming to develop high-skilled healthcare professionals, contributing to the sustainable development of the national healthcare system.

The two sides will continue to cooperate to enhance the position of training and scientific research in healthcare and evidence-based medicine in Vietnam within the region.
According to the MoU, AstraZeneca Vietnam and the university agree to develop bilateral cooperation in healthcare in the following areas; including continuing medical education (online and/or offline); developing and enhancing the capacity to conduct scientific research for lecturers, postgraduate researchers, and medical personnel; and supporting the publication of scientific research topics in prestigious international journals.

Not only bringing practical benefits to both organisations, this cooperation also promises to significantly contribute to enhancing the quality of the healthcare workforce and promoting the development of Vietnam's healthcare system. Through training and nurturing a high-quality research team, we will have more research published in international scientific journals, thereby affirming Vietnam's position in evidence-based medicine.

Atul Tandon, general director of AstraZeneca Vietnam, also expressed AstraZeneca commitment to promoting scientific progress, improving the skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals, and contributing to building a sustainable foundation for Vietnam's healthcare system.
In Phase 1 from 2020-2024, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy and AstraZeneca organised continuous medical training programmes through short-term courses on genetic counseling, molecular biology, and pathology. These programmes contributed to updating knowledge and enhancing practical skills for 72 oncologists and 20 pathologists from nearly 20 leading cancer hospitals nationwide.
Additionally, through training activities on skills and international publication guidance, up to 30 research articles were published in prestigious medical journals worldwide. Intensive training courses, including research proposal writing skills, publication skills, and presentation skills at health science conferences, were held regularly, benefiting over 500 doctors and postgraduate students.
