Abbott launches new Ensure Gold with innovative ingredients

This latest innovation offers complete and balanced nutrition, containing both beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB) and yeast beta-glucan (YBG) to support muscle and immune system health, helping adults stay strong and active as they age.

Ageing is a natural process that can come with declines in muscle and immune health. Most immune cell levels drop with age; therefore, the elderly are at a higher risk of infection. Additionally, adults can lose up to 40 per cent of their muscle mass between the ages of 40 and 80.

Muscle loss can impact strength, immunity, and the ability to recover from illness. Nutritional deficiencies can further exacerbate age-related health declines, which is why it is important that adults focus on proper nutrition and exercise.

How nutrition supports ageing

Malnutrition among the older generation is a prevalent yet commonly overlooked issue. Studies indicate that nearly one in three of the elderly are malnourished or at-risk of malnourishment.

In Vietnam, almost half of this group who are hospitalised are malnourished. According to healthcare experts, regular nutritional and physical interventions are a practical, cost-effective approach to improve immune function, fight inflammation, and slow down ageing.

To help improve the health of ageing adults, the new and improved Ensure Gold provides complete and balanced nutrition, designed with a dual action formula including HMB to strengthen muscle health in eight weeks and YBG to enhance immunity in four weeks.

HMB, along with high-quality protein, is an important element to improve muscle health.

It is an essential amino acid and can be found in small amounts in foods like avocado, grapefruit, cauliflower, and catfish.

However, it is difficult to get enough HMB (1.5g/day) through food sources alone, which is why it can be beneficial to look for nutritional supplements that include HMB.

YBG, together with other nutrients, helps to strengthen the immune system.
