10th Hue Festival scheduled in April 2018

Under the motto “Cultural heritage with integration and development,” the 10th Hue Festival will be held in April 2018, according to the provincial People’s Committee.

The news was announced on September 1 at a meeting wrapping up the organization of Festival Hue 2016.

The 10th Hue Festival will last six days in April, 2018, targeting to uphold domestic strength and promote social engagement. France will be the major partner. In addition, the festival is expected to invite famous art troupes from all over the world.

In 2018, Thua Thien-Hue province will mark a series of important cultural and historical events including the 230th anniversary of Nguyen Hue’s throne ascension ceremony (1788-2018); the 25th anniversary of the relics of Hue Citadel being recognized as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage (1993-2018); and the 15th anniversary of the Hue Court Music being recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Mankind (2003-2018).

Reviewing the organization of the ninth festival in May 2016, Nguyen Dung, Deputy Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee said that the festival successfully featured unique royal, traditional and spiritual festivals, together with royal music and dances and folk music of Hue.

Performances of 21 art troupes from 17 countries and territories across the world left strong impressions to visitors, he said.

The central province called for the engagement of the community in the organization of the event with VND 30 billion.

The Festival Hue 2016 drew nearly 1 million spectators, including 250,000 tourists, 28,000 of whom were foreigners.
