The Italian Honorary Consul in Ho Chi Minh City, Carlo Anzon, inaugurated a new Schengen visa application centre on January 9.

Thanks to the new centre, applicants will no longer have to go to Hanoi to apply for travel visas.

The centre marks a partnership between the Italian and Spanish embassies in Vietnam, and London-based VFS Global, a worldwide outsourcing and technology services company for diplomatic missions and governments.

The embassies have signed an agreement to outsource Italian and Spanish visa applications in Ho Chi Minh City to speed up processing. The centre will accept applications for visas if the first port of entry or longest stay is in Italy or Spain.

Loren Dsouza, VFS Global head for Southeast Asia and Pacific, said his company was responsible for accepting and processing applications for Schengen visas from applicants residing across Vietnam. The company charges a small service fee to users.
