This year, the tournament attracted more than 200 golfers, marking one of the biggest participation to date.
Since the first event in 2007, the annual tournament has been one to look forward to at every spring. The tournament is the chance for investors, domestic and foreign business people, diplomats, and representatives of international organisations to contribute to making education possible for poor students as well as to meet and exchange ideas for life and career.
This year the tournament has raised over VND1.4 billion ($62,000) in cash for VIR’s scholarship fund and Vietnam Learning Promotion Association to turn into scholarships.
Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung lauded the Swing for the Kids charity golf tournament as it “has become a well-known, meaningful event that helps people in need and at the same time connect the Vietnamese business community with foreign investors, international organisations, local authorities, and government agencies, especially the Ministry of Planning and Investment.”
“The high number of participants this year shows the community’s belief in the event,” said VIR’s editor-in-chief Le Trong Minh, head of the organising board, in his speech at the opening ceremony. “We are very happy and proud to contribute to realising the dreams of thousands of disadvantaged students all over Vietnam.”
Swing for the Kids 2017 was made possible by returning partners, including BRG and SeABank as co-organisers, Samsung Electronics Vietnam as the third-year diamond sponsor, and Vingroup as the platinum sponsor.
This year also recognises the commitment of KinderWorld and Coca-Cola as gold sponsors to accompany the tournament for the long-term. Robert Bosch Vietnam, Viet Capital Securities, Dream Home JSC are the bronze sponsors and Dalat Palace Golf Club is the Hole-in-One sponsor, along with others.
This is the first year that SeABank works with the organising board to find eligible students to give VND500,000 ($24) a month in scholarships throughout their school lives. Media partners are newspapers Dan Tri, Kinh te va Do thi, Vietnam Economic Times, Vietnam Education, An ninh Thu do, and VOVNews, as well as Golf Plus magazine.
