Covering everything from Indian computer services companies to Indonesian property developers, Asia300 offers a glimpse of the players aiming to be the dominant forces in the 21st century and the multinationals poised to challenge established Western brands, of whom Vietnam contributes five representatives.

This year's Asia300 ranking lists 300 companies, including five representatives of Vietnam: Vietcombank, PetroVietnam, Vinamilk, Vingroup and FPT.

The Asia300 is Nikkei's exclusive list of the biggest and fastest-growing companies from 11 economies across the continent. The picks are based on market capitalisation, with consideration also given to growth potential and geographic balance to bring into sharper relief ASEAN economies in particular.

The ranking is based on Nikkei's office network across Asia.

After the list of Asia300, Nikkei Asian Review has compiled its exclusive ranking of the top 100 Asia300 companies. Updated using the latest financial results of 325 of the biggest and fastest-growing companies in the region, excluding Japan, this ranking provides a benchmark for the performance of major Asian companies. In addition to the overall ranking, the list also provides a breakdown of the five metrics used to calculate the standings, five-year average growth in revenue and net profit, return on equity, net profit margin, and the ratio of shareholders' equity to total assets.

The three Vietnamese names in the top 100 include Vinamilk standing at number 25, Vietcombank at 54, and PetroVietnam at 84.
