Vietnam Water Week 2024 is being held from November 6-8 by the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association with the support from the Ministry of Construction (MoC) and local authorities.

“Vietnam Water Week 2024 will continue to be an international and regional forum for state management agencies, research institutions, and enterprises in water supply, drainage, and wastewater treatment to exchange, share experiences, introduce and transfer smart and advanced technologies,” Nguyen Ngoc Diep, chairman of the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association.

“The common goal is moving towards a water industry that develops safely, effectively, and sustainably, adapts, and is increasingly resilient to the impacts of climate change and international integration,” Diep said.

The event includes international conferences on the draft law on water supply and drainage; operational management of water supply and drainage projects to adapt to climate change; smart management of water utilities; gender equality in the water industry, and an open technical seminar with the participation of experts from the domestic and international water industry.

The conferences will help enterprises in the water industry to adopt a multidimensional vision as well as breakthrough solutions to help Vietnam's water industry develop effectively and sustainably, and adapt to climate change.

There will also be a roundtable meeting of the Southeast Asia Water United Nations with the participation of CEO of the International Water Association to discuss challenges and opportunities in the water industry in Southeast Asia. Countries will jointly propose solutions with the support of the International Water Association.

“Several international governments and organisations have been cooperating and supporting Vietnam in water supply, sewerage, and wastewater treatment activities. Projects on technical assistance and investment in the construction of water supply, sewerage, and wastewater treatment plants have been implemented across the country. Through this, enterprises have brought water and wastewater treatment technologies with modern techniques and advanced management models to Vietnamese projects,” said Pham Minh Ha, deputy minister of construction.

“Therefore, it is essential to hold this international event with seminars on the draft law on water supply and sewerage; financial policies and prices of water supply and sewerage services; development of the water sector to adapt to climate change; modern technologies in management and operation of smart water supply and sewerage systems to adapt to climate change and sea level rise,” said Deputy Minister Ha.

According to the MoC, water supply, sewerage, and wastewater treatment have been significantly improved, and the urban appearance has been improved to meet the country's socioeconomic development goals.

Currently, there are about 1,000 water supply plants with a total capacity of about 13.2 million cubic metres per day and 82 centralised wastewater treatment plants with a total design capacity of about 1.79 million cu.m per day. The service rate is 94 per cent, with water supply of 120 litres per person per day.
