UN Secretary Ban Ki-moon launches UN WeChat account

WeChat, free mobile phone text and voice messaging communication service has announced that it is the official application used by United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in a bid to boost the UN's social media presence in China, also to communicate with community of more than 300 million account users in the world.

The secretary-general launched the account from New York with a video message broadcast on WeChat and other social media platforms.

In video message (http://youtu.be/3f-4YdJTbrE), Ban affirmed the vital role of UN for “international peace, security and development” and expressed its growing profile through social media. "I hope that this UN WeChat will enable many Chinese citizens to understand the latest news and information about what we are doing and why it matters," said Ban.

Available on most popular platforms as iOS, Android, Windows Phone and recently BlackBerry, the attraction of WeChat lies in its one-stop platform concept when all social and communications services that users love and need stays in one application.  Its wide range of friendly and unique features (hold-to-talk, shaking to sync, scanning to add friends, sharing on Moments, Facebook and Twitter, photo quick fix, etc.) are helping 300 million users enjoy the convenience of world-wide connection without switching across many applications.
