At 9 PM on May 13, five civilians caught two young men stealing a motorbike Honda SH from a store on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street (District 3). As soon as the civilians yelled for help, the two young men and their accomplices turned on them with knives. Thoi and Nam died in the attack and the other three suffered serious injures.

With heroic actions and being death while catching robbers, two street knights in Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Binh district qualified for granting revolutionary martyr titles.

This statement was shared by Nguyen Duy Kien, member of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in the afternoon of May 14.

According to clause E and D in Article 11 of the ordinance on preferential treatment of people with meritorious services to the revolution, people who recognised as revolutionary martyr as laid down their lives for the cause of national liberation, national defence, performance of international duties, and for the state benefits and the good of the people.

In addition, the cases of combating crimes, bravely performing urgent and dangerous tasks to save the property of the state and people, are also donated martyr titles.

Under the regulations, the case of two knights Nguyen Hoang Nam (29 years old, Ho Chi Minh City’s Go Vap district) and Nguyen Van Thoi (42 years old, the central province of Binh Dinh) dead for catching robbers is supposed to be the brave actions to save people’s property. Therefore, this case completely fulfils the requirement of granting martyr titles.

Until the afternoon of May 14, District 3’s polices co-operated with Ho Chi Minh City Police Department’s Crime Division (PC45) arrested one suspect related to this case.
