Tian Yun Yun, 30, from China’s Jiangxi Province and Zhong Zheng, 17, from Guangxi Province were sentenced to seven years’ and 30 months’ imprisonment, respectively, for using computers, telecommunication networks and the Internet or digital devices to appropriate property as stated in the Penal Code.

According to the indictment, in May 2016, the duo came to northern Quảng Ninh Province from China and from there took a bus to Hà Nội.

Using hidden cameras and skimmers at ATMs on Láng Hạ Street and Đống Đa District, they had stolen ATM card details and passwords and produced 160 fake ATM cards, using them to withdraw money.

The two men were arrested in June 2016 by the Ba Đình District police after they withdrew VNĐ210 million (US$9,200) from 14 ATMs within a period of two hours using fake ATM cards.

One of the victims was robbed of VNĐ70 million ($3,000) on the night of June 4, investigations revealed.
