Sustainable livestock the focus for Vietstock 2024

The international livestock, feed, fisheries, and meat processing exhibition Vietstock will this year take place on October 9-11 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietstock 2024, which will combine innovation and industry expertise, will have a focus on transforming livestock for higher productivity, better nutrition, a greener environment, and improved lives.

It serves as a premier platform where businesses in the sector can showcase advanced technologies, discuss emerging trends, and address challenges facing the livestock and aquaculture industries in Vietnam and the ASEAN region.

Organised by the Department of Livestock Production in collaboration with Informa Markets Group (represented by SES Vietnam Exhibition Services Co., Ltd), Vietstock 2024 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center in District 7.

The 12th instalment of Vietstock is expected to surpass its predecessors with an exhibition area of 15,000 square metres, featuring over 400 exhibitors and attracting 13,000 visitors from 50 countries and regions.

The event will run concurrently with the International Fisheries and Aquaculture Exhibition Vietnam, creating a comprehensive destination that spans the entire value chain of Vietnam's livestock and aquaculture industries.

Vietstock 2024 will host a diverse range of programmes and activities aimed at promoting sustainable development in the livestock and aquaculture industries. Key highlights include product, service, and technology exhibitions; technical conferences and seminars; a match and meet business networking programme; and a group visitor support programme.

There will also be an egg pavilion, sustainable development pavilion, and a series of specialised livestock seminars. The exhibition will also honour businesses and organisations that have made outstanding efforts to develop and contribute to the industry and society.

Prominent conferences will address critical industry issues, including the International Aquaculture Conference and Asian Biosecurity Conference, and there will be sessions on poultry, beef cattle, dairy cattle, and pig farming; renewable energy from livestock waste; nutrition and animal feed; animal welfare; and greenhouse gas emission control in livestock farming.

Speaking at a press conference on August 7 in Hanoi to promote the event, Duong Tat Thang, director of the Department of Livestock Production stated, "Through this exhibition, farmers, businesses, scientists, and managers can share domestic and international information to guide more sustainable livestock development in the future, following green economy, green agriculture, and circular agriculture models."

Accounting for over a quarter of the agricultural sector's share, Vietnamese livestock farming has made notable progress amidst technological development and international integration. In 2023, the livestock industry achieved impressive figures, with total livestock production increasing by 6.38 per cent compared to 2022.

Pig farming ranked sixth globally in production, supplying about 4.5 million tonnes of live meat, while poultry farming provided 2.3 million tonnes of live meat and 19.2 billion eggs.

Beyond meeting domestic demand, Vietnamese livestock products were also exported, with total export value in 2023 reaching $515 million, a 26.2 per cent increase from 2022.
