Super Energy illustrating potential for Thai businesses

Super Energy over the past few years has begun operations of five solar projects in various provinces

Supa Waisayarat, country director for Vietnam at Super Energy Corporation PCL, said that the country’s large population and economic growth ranking in the world will expedite electricity demand in the next 5-10 years, which his company sees as a great opportunity as it can feed the demand by enlarging its renewable capacity and seizing a larger market share, all the while promoting a green future in Vietnam’s energy mix.

“The greatest boost we can give the Vietnamese energy sector and the development of renewable energies in Vietnam is investment. Super Energy has already recognised that Vietnam is a land of opportunities. With Thailand’s demand for electricity hampered by the economic slowdown, this market is almost irresistible,” Waisayarat added.

Super Energy has been active in Vietnam since 2017, intending to conquer the renewable energy sector and becoming one of the top suppliers in ASEAN. The corporation operates six solar power projects in in Kien Giang, Binh Thuan, and Nam Dinh provinces, generating income of over $35 million per year.

The company also has three wind power projects under construction and two more in the pipeline with total capacity of 630 mega-watt peak, including in Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, and Gia Lai provinces.

Waisayarat shared that Super Energy expects to complete these projects on schedule, transforming Vietnam into the second home of the company.

“However, we will not stop there. After finishing these projects, we will continue expanding and are already thinking about our next schemes in the pipeline,” he said.

Waisayarat emphasised that the entire Super Energy team “is constantly aware of our responsibility to the local community, wherever we are.” Moreover, Waisayarat stressed the importance of building domestic human resources that the company plans to expand on. “While we are widening our operations, we will use Vietnam as our base of operations. We plan to use the approved operating model in Vietnam for our next markets, using Vietnamese personnel to share their expertise with our engineers in markets like Indonesia and the Philippines, similarly to how we did this with our Thai experts in Vietnam,” he added.

As such, Super Energy is working intensively to build up its base in Vietnam and has so far established 10 subsidiaries in the country. With this, they are training a new generation of engineers by combining the expertise of Vietnamese and Thai employees with those from across the world.

According to Waisayarat, this will not only ensure operational excellence for his company, but also provide a savvier, more prepared body of engineers for the domestic energy industry.

Besides its focus on human resources, Super Energy has also been engaged in several practical activities to support its new host country, such as by donating CCTV sets to the Border Defense Forces to serve security work, supporting road improvements in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, presenting Mid-Autumn Festival gifts to students in difficult circumstances, and supporting schools in rural provinces with tables, chairs, and sports tools.

“We are delighted that we are not only able to invest and do business in Vietnam, but also can make a small contribution to society, consistent with the current development trends. We hope that we can thus contribute to ensuring national energy security, protecting the environment, and ensuring sustainability,” Waisayarat added.
