On May 19, the Vietnamese Embassy in Spain exhibited and auctioned 20 artistic photos to raise funds for disadvantaged children in Vietnam.
The event, organised in coordination with photographer Tran Viet Ha and jewellery and auction company DURAN, attracted 150 participants, including many foreigners and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Madrid.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Spain Ngo Tien Dung stressed the importance of the cultural diplomatic activity on the occasion of the 128th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh and the 41st founding anniversary of Vietnam-Spain diplomatic ties (May 23, 1977).
A sum of money equivalent to 100 million VND (nearly 4.400 USD) was collected from the auction of 15 photos. The other photos can be bought via the website of DURAN.
Later the same day, the embassy held a meeting with about 70 Spanish families adopting Vietnamese children.
Nearly 2,000 families across Spain have adopted Vietnamese children over the past two decades.
Also on May 19, the Association of Fellow Countrymen of Nghe An province in Germany organised a celebration of the 128th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh at the Dong Xuan Centre in Berlin.
Nghe An, a province in central Vietnam, is the home province of Ho Chi Minh.

In his speech, Chairman of the Association of Fellow Countrymen of Nghe An Tran Van Dung reviewed the life and career of the late leader, affirming the pride in and endless tribute to President Ho Chi Minh.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Doan Xuan Hung highlighted the leader’s enormous contributions to the fight for the independence of Vietnam and the struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress around the world.
Earlier, the embassy staff and the Association of Nghe An Fellow Countrymen paid respect to Ho Chi Minh at the memorial site dedicated to the President in Moritzburg town, about 15km to the northwest of Dresden city. The memorial site, located in the campus of the previous Käthe-Kollwitz-Heim school, was set up shortly after Ho Chi Minh visited the school 61 years ago.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese people in Mexico paid tribute to the leader in front of his statue in Mexico City on May 19. The Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico also held a number of activities in May to celebrate the late President’s birthday and 43 years of the two countries’ diplomatic relations (May 19, 1975).
President Ho Chi Minh (1890-1969) was the founder of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He founded and led the Vietnamese revolution to victory with the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in 1945.

A series of activities held by Vietnamese communities in many countries across the world to celebrate the 128th birthday of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19).
The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos, the Vietnamese Association in Vientiane, the Vietnam Business Association in collaboration with Thailand’s Udonthani provincial authorities organised an incense offering to the late leader at his memorial site in Udonthani, where President Ho Chi Minh, with alias "Thau Chin", worked and built a revolutionary base in 1928- 1929.
Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung recalled great contributions made by President Ho Chi Minh to the national independence and freedom, and happiness of the people.
Governor of Udonthani province Wathana Phutthichat expressed his honour to attend the event, affirming that the memorial site is not only to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh, but also helps enhance the friendship between Vietnam and Thailand.
In Cuba, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) laid flowers in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his monument in Havana capital on the same day.
ICAP President and Fernando Gonzalez Llort, and head of the Cuban National Assembly’s External Relations Commission and President of the Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association Yolanda Ferrer attended the event.
Also on the occasion, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong, China, held a tour of relic sites related to activities of President Ho Chi Minh when he was staying in Hong Kong.
Staff members of the Consulate General, representatives from other Vietnamese offices and overseas Vietnamese in Hong Kong participated in this meaningful activity.
Vietnamese Consul General Tran Thanh Huan said he hopes through the activity, participants have an opportunity to learn more about the life and revolutionary career of President Ho Chi Minh when he was in Hong Kong.
Meanwhile in Japan, authorities of Mimasaka city, Okayama prefecture, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Consulate General in Osaka hosted a ceremony to mark the 128th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh.
The event saw the participation of representatives from the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association, and the Japan-Vietnam Exchange Association in Osaka and Mimasaka, the Vietnamese Business Association in Japan, and the Vietnamese Associations in Kansai region and Kobe city, along with crowds of overseas Vietnamese in the country and Japanese friends.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor of Mimasaka city Hagiwara Seiji highlighted President Ho Chi Minh’s contributions to peace and democracy in the world.
Mimasaka is honored to be the first city in Japan to place a statue of President Ho Chi Minh and celebrate his birthday, he said.
He hoped the relationship between Mimasaka and Vietnam in particular, and between Japan and Vietnam will be stronger in the coming time.
An art performance and a photo exhibition on the land and people of Vietnam were also included in the programme.
Also the same day, staff from the Vietnamese Embassy, Vietnamese agencies, Vietnamese people and students living, working and studying in the UK gathered for a ceremony to mark the late leader’s birth anniversary.
The ceremony took place New Zealand Building, which was built on the foundation of the famous Carlton Hotel in the centre of London, where President Ho Chi Minh worked during his stay in the UK from 1913-1917.
In his speech at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Tran Ngoc An expressed his respect for and gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh.
Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in the UK Vuong Manh Hung and Chairman of the Vietnamese Students’ Association Ngo Nam Son expressed their emotion when attending the ceremony.
Similar events were also organised in Pretoria, South Africa, and Maputo, Mozambique.
Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to South Africa Vu Van Dung highlighted President Ho Chi Minh’s life and revolutionary career as well as his ethics, saying that the thought, morality, personality and teachings of President Ho Chi Minh is the light for the nation.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Le Huy Hoang pointed out the major milestones in President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary career and his contributions to the nation as well as to the national liberation cause in Africa and in the world.

A commemoration of Ho Chi Minh’s 128th birth anniversary took place at the memorial site dedicated to the late Vietnamese President in Montreau Park in the French city of Montreuil.
Speaking at the ceremony, Florian Vigneron, deputy mayor of Montreuil, recalled the time Ho Chi Minh lived and worked for the cause of liberation of oppressed nations in France.
He said his city is proud of having made contributions to the bilateral ties between the two nations during Vietnam’s struggle for independence and national construction.
Vietnamese Ambassador to France Nguyen Thiep said visiting the Ho Chi Minh space in Montreau Park on his birth anniversary has become an annual tradition of staff at the embassy, Vietnamese expatriates in France, and French friends of Vietnam.
He stated the Ho Chi Minh memorial site in Montreau Park is evidence of the friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Vietnam and France.
Earlier, representatives of the embassy and the association of Vietnamese in France visited and laid flowers at No 9, Compoint alley, District 17, Paris, where Ho Chi Minh lived from 1921-1923.
On the occasion, an exhibition of French archive materials on Ho Chi Minh and Vietnamese patriotic revolutionaries, is running at the headquarters of the Vietnamese association in France from May 17-25.
