Pfizer Thailand Foundation, in collaboration with Hanoi Medical University, recently granted scholarships to three outstanding Vietnamese students currently undertaking medical studies at the Hanoi Medical University.

The total value of the grants was VND64 million or $3,000, with each selected student receiving VND21.4 million or $1,000 per year in support of tuition fees, textbooks, food allowances, and dormitory until their graduation.

The grant beneficiaries were Dang Tuan Dung, Nguyen Thanh Son, who are at their fifth year of medical studies; and Hoang Minh Tien who is at his sixth year of studies.

The three scholars have been supported under this programme since their first year of studies by the Pfizer Thailand Foundation.

The Pfizer Thailand Foundation’s scholarship programme was launched in Thailand in 2003 and expanded to Vietnam in 2006.

Under this programme, scholarships are awarded to the selected students who are talented but challenged by difficult financial circumstances.

Bradley Silcox, chief representative of Pfizer (Thailand) Limited in Vietnam said, “We grant the scholarships to talented but economically disadvantaged students to support them and help contribute to fulfilling their dreams of becoming doctors, and also to encourage them to contribute back to the community.”

Fourteen students were awarded the scholarships thus far under this programme with a total amount of VND1.2 billion or $56,000 in grants awarded.

Pfizer Thailand Foundation, a non-profit organisation, is an independent philanthropic organisation registered in 2001 with a contribution from Pfizer Thailand Limited, an affiliate of US-based Pfizer Inc., one of the world's premier innovative biopharmaceutical companies.

The Foundation also partners with local community in supporting philanthropic and educational activities and to improve and help the medical community in its quest to better serve the patients, especially economically deprived citizens.
