National Assembly wraps up key session

The first session of the 13th National Assembly was wrapped up this afternoon, with the new leadership team elected and ready to lay firm groundwork for Vietnam’s new development era.

National Assembly’s chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said the 14.5 day session was a great success, especially the election of chairperson and vice chairpersons of the National Assembly, the National Assembly’s Standing Committee members, state president, state deputy president, prime minister, the chief judge of the Supreme People’s Court, and the head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the Council of Ethnic Minorities and the National Assembly’s committees, the session’s secretary team and general state auditor.

The National Assembly also elected its deputy chairpersons and member of its Defence and Security Council members.

Especially, the government’s new cabinet, including four deputy prime ministers, 18 ministers and four heads of ministry-level bodies, was also elected.

Hung said National Assembly deputies have great faith in those elected.

Hung said that the election of the 13th National Assembly and the government’s new cabinet was a “very important job, with great significance to the quality and operational effectiveness of the state’s apparatus during the new term.”

The session was also used to discuss and approve a 2009 state budget resolution and discuss the country’s socio-economic development in 2011. Besides, the National Assembly also approved a resolution on tax related problems to support enterprises and individuals during the remainder of 2011 and 2012.

The session also considered a resolution to amend and supplement Vietnam’s 1992 Constitution and to establish a committee in charge of researching the constitution amendment.
