The local singer defeated Olivia Ong (Singapore), Hafiz (Malaysia), NOAH (Indonesia), Sarah Geronimo (the Philippines) and Slot Machine (Thailand) and will now represent Southeast Asia at the second round where she faces stiff competition from Chris Lee (China/Hong Kong) and Show Lo (Taiwan).
“This is the first step of my journey to bring Vietnam’s music to the world. I do hope to receive more votes and support from audiences to win in further rounds,” said My Tam, in a statement.
The second round winner as well as winners from other regions including northern Europe, western Europe, Japan/South Korea and Australia/New Zealand will be announced tomorrow.
Artists from ten regions will battle it out to be voted the Best Worldwide Act. There are 186 artists in different genres of music from 51 countries competing this year.
MTV EMA 2013 which takes place at Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam will be broadcasted live on MTV Vietnam at 2 a.m. on November 11.

My Tam has released eight albums and four singles and has achieved 40 prizes in her career. Notably, ABC News in August 2010 ranked Tam in sixth position of the “Global Pop Sensations You’ve Never Heard Of” and she won the Best Asian Artist at Mnet Asian Music Awards 2012 in South Korea.
