Vietnam recorded 10,489 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours to 5pm September 16, taking the total number of infections to 656,129, according to the Ministry of Health.

Hanoi - Vietnam recorded 10,489 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours to 5pm September 16, taking the total number of infections to 656,129, according to the Ministry of Health.

Among the new cases, there were seven imported and 10,482 local infections.

HCM City still topped the list with 5,735 new infections, followed by neighbouring Binh Duong province with 2,998, Dong Nai (567), Long An (281), and Kien Giang (198). The capital city of Hanoi reported 15 cases.

A further 10,901 recoveries were reported on September 16, taking the total number of patients given the all-clear to 423,551.

There were also 234 fatalities during the day, while localities added five deaths from previous days, raising total death toll to 16,425 or 2.5 percent of the national caseload.

There are currently 5,750 patients in serious conditions.
