Nearly a month ago, the organisers of the annual charity golf tournament and sponsors Vingroup and SeABank made a trip to Huong Tra town in Thua Thien-Hue province to grant 100 special gifts to some very talented students living in difficult circumstances.

A total of 80 scholarships and 20 bicycles with a combined value of $4,600 were given to the students by the delegation to encourage them to continue in their studies and never give up on their dreams.
“The value of the gifts is not great, but represents the whole heart and persistent efforts of the businesses and entrepreneurs who have accompanied Swing for the Kids for the past 16 years,” said Le Trong Minh, VIR’s editor-in-chief and head of the Swing for the Kids Organising Board.
“Starting in 2008, VIR’s Swing for the Kids charity golf tournament has had a long journey with many ups and downs. However, its purpose will never change.”
According to Minh, Swing for the Kids is not a competitive tournament, but a meeting of compassionate hearts who want to contribute more to the community. It is a journey that has a beginning but not an end because the commitment of the partners and sponsors will forever remain undimmed.
The Swing for the Kids scholarship fund has stretched across the country from north to south, including to remote island areas such as Hoang Sa island district in the central city of Danang, granting funds to thousands upon thousands of aspiring students nationwide.
At the end of June, a further 100 scholarships were granted to poor students in Dong Xuan district, a highland locality still facing many difficulties in the south-central province of Phu Yen.
Phu Yen is a regular and familiar destination in the scholarship fund’s journey, where the organisers always have the companionship and support of provincial leaders, which is all part of the transparency, effectiveness and unlimited spirit of the scholarship fund.
Tran Trang Nha, a pupil of class 7B at Nguyen Viet Xuan Secondary School in Dong Xuan district, one of the students receiving the scholarships shared, “We are all so grateful and hope that the Swing for the Kids scholarship will grow and continue to be a companion to students in hardship. From this fund, many pupils will be empowered to continue studying and aim for their dreams.”
While the journey of giving hope to pupils in difficult localities is ongoing, last weekend, the Swing for the Kids scholarship Fund was present at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Hanoi and was part of a charity programme organised by VIR’s Youth Union.
A total of 20 gifts with a total value of VND 20 million ($843.8) were awarded to 20 children with leukaemia, living in extremely difficult circumstances, as well as children from mountainous and ethnic minority areas.
Le Viet Duong, secretary of VIR’s Youth Union, said, “On behalf of the benefactors, we give the children gifts as a wish of peace and good health. Hopefully, they will quickly stabilise their health and return to school to continue studying and achieving their ambitions.”
Reflecting on a profoundly meaningful journey of 16 years of constant effort, VIR’s 16th Swing for the Kids charity golf tournament will shortly tee off again, with the expectations of a new journey with more joy and happiness for both those who have accompanied the campaign and the many students across the country.
