According to a statement released on April 15, the assistant minister will visit Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, meeting with Vietnamese ministers, as well as development partners and business leaders.

She will deliver a keynote speech to the Australia-Vietnam Green Economy Summit in Ho Chi Minh City on April 16, reinforcing Australia’s support for Vietnam and Southeast Asia throughout their clean energy transformations.

The meetings and summit will help Australia and Vietnam work together to capture the opportunities offered by renewable energy and address the challenges of climate change.

Assistant Minister McAllister said Australia would work with Vietnam to share the benefits of the clean energy transition.

“This visit will further Australian and Vietnamese cooperation on new clean energy industries, technologies and networks,” McAllister said. “Cooperation is the key to unlocking economic opportunities for Australia and Vietnam as our countries, and international partners, undergo a clean energy transformation. I look forward to working with the government and business leaders of Vietnam to take these opportunities and secure our energy future.”

On March 7, Australia and Vietnam elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the first of its kind with a standalone climate and clean energy pillar.

"Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040" also identifies the green energy transition as a priority sector for cooperation with Vietnam.
