Despite the complicated progress of the COVID-19 pandemic globally, Vietnam’s e-commerce market still posted remarkable growth. It is estimated that e-commerce revenue in Vietnam hit $11.8 billion in 2021, posting a growth rate of 18 per cent. The number of shoppers on e-commerce platforms have increased from 52 to 74 per cent in 2020.
Amazon Global Selling highly appreciates the potential of the Vietnamese market with the impressive growth despite enormous difficulties during two years of the pandemic. Vietnam has the capacity to produce a wide range of local products as well as a very high entrepreneurial spirit. Digital transformation is a key focus area for thousands of businesses and manufacturers during this period. As a result, Amazon has made significant investments to accompany and assist Vietnamese entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and sales partners through a variety of collaboration and support programmes.
Amazon is ready to bring Made-in-Vietnam to the international market |
Amazon Global Selling has set up two offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to expand its support to thousands of businesses and seller partners over the past year to promote "Made in Vietnam" products to international clients. In addtion, Amazon has offered services, tools and training courses to facilitate businesses to drive growth on a global scale. Specifically, Amazon helps businesses select suitable products that ensure quality criteria and industry standards for each market. Other support include setting up virtual stalls on Amazon and taking advantage of Amazon’s logistics resources worldwide to develop a comprehensive, effective, and professional plan in the long term.
The support has contributed to the remarkable growth of Vietnamese sales partners on Amazon. In the beginning of December, Amazon Global Selling Vietnam has released its 2021 Small and Medium Enterprise Empowerment Report in Vietnam. From September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021, the number of products sold by Vietnamese SMEs on Amazon stalls has increased by 34 per cent on-year. At the same time, the number of Vietnamese SMEs that surpassed $100,000, $500,000, and $1 million in sales on Amazon grew by more than 18, 53, and 40 per cent, respectively.
In December 2019, Amazon Global Selling officially signed an MoU with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam. This shows the efforts of both parties in encouraging exports through e-commerce and improving the competitiveness of domestic businesses so that they can grow globally. For many enterprises in Vietnam, cross-border e-commerce is still a new trend; as a result, this cooperation will provide numerous options for domestic sellers to gain knowledge, enhance skills, and access investment and partnership prospects to conquer international clients.
Dang Hoang Hai, director of IDEA under the MoIT, said that, “We have witnessed the sustained efforts of businesses day by day. They are constantly learning and adjusting to the new normal as well as the rapidly changing transformation in the digital commerce era. IDEA will strengthen its partnership with Amazon to develop creative programmes to boost and unlock the potential of Vietnamese firms and assist them in seizing global possibilities."
