The Ministry of Public Security reported that during the nine-day holiday (from February 2 to 10), 276 accidents claimed 183 lives and injured 241 others. But this was still less than the amount of fatalities and injuries compared to last year’s Tet holiday.
From February 2-8, 135 were killed and 189 others were injured in 214 accidents, down 17.7 per cent in the number of cases last year, down 30.7 per cent in fatalities and down 14.01 per cent in the number of the wounded compared to the previous Tet holiday. The average fatalities during Tet reached 20 cases per day, down 28 per cent annually. Traffic police also dealt with more than 21,300 road safety violations, seizing nearly 4,000 vehicles and 2,900 driving licences.
