Weaving of zeng (a kind of brocade), a standout cultural product of Ta Oi ethnic minority community in A Luoi mountainous district, became a national cultural intangible heritage under the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Decision No.4036/QD-BVHTTDL.
For hundreds of years, local people have paid due attention to protecting the traditional weaving by seeking materials to make kaleidoscopic pieces of cloths with unique patterns.
Actually, the zeng weaving helps locals earn good income, with each piece of cloth sold at up to 1.5 million VND. Zeng brocade has been favoured by many visitors as it has good quality and illustrates the skillful talent of artisans.
In the past years, provincial authorities have endorsed zeng weaving development by equipping weaving establishments with machines, and organising training courses and vocational training to improve production capacity.
The Ministry of Science and Technology’s Intellectual Property Office granted Zeng A Luoi collective brand certificate to the women union of A Luoi district. The certified zeng products include bag, suitcase, wallet, tablecloth, and ties, among others.
