The city is located in the Mekong Delta with plentiful natural conditions, criss-crossed rivers.
This year, the city was forecast to attract 7.5 million of tourists, posting a year-on-year growth of 40% and earn VND 2.9 trillion of revenue, up 61% against the same period last year.
Experts attributed the sharp rise in tourism revenue to a string of political and cultural events namely the food security week within the APEC, the volleyball contest, the Viet Nam-Japan cultural exchange festival, and the Southern folk cake festival.
In addition, the local authorities also promote tourism promotion activities and sign a series of cooperative agreements with both domestic and foreign travel agents.
Next year, the locality intends to welcome 2.45 million tourists staying overnight, up 28.9% against 2017, by building and developing special products such as Cai Rang floating market, pilot river tours at night, street bands, and City tour using electric tram cars.
