Vietnam Report evaluated the reputation of insurance companies objectively and independently, based on the assessment of companies' financial capacity, media coding analysis, and surveys conducted with relevant stakeholders in May and June 2023.

Looking back at 2022, a year marked by profound economic fluctuations, the insurance industry demonstrated relative stability despite a slower growth rate compared to previous years. The industry played a crucial role in safeguarding the economy against risks, and several key indicators within the insurance market reflected positive growth trends.

According to data from the Insurance Supervisory Authority, the overall insurance premium revenue in the market increased by 15.1 per cent compared to the previous year. Life insurance premium revenue rose by 15 per cent, while non-life insurance premium revenue witnessed a robust surge of 15.3 per cent, far surpassing the modest 4.3 per cent growth recorded in 2021. Health insurance, in particular, emerged as the largest product segment.

Entering the early stages of 2023, the insurance industry finds itself facing its own crisis, having helped customers navigate through difficult periods. Controversies surrounding the bancassurance distribution channel have eroded confidence in the life insurance market and the insurance industry as a whole, reaching its lowest levels for nearly 30 years.

The situation further escalated when another life insurance company faced allegations of vague and irresponsible customer advice, resulting in a sudden surge of negative sentiment towards the insurance sector.
