On July 12, the Ministry of Health sent a dispatch to the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) introducing Vietnam’s T&T Group to represent the country in negotiations for the purchase of 40 million doses of Sputnik V vaccines.

Specifically, T&T Group, a multi-sectoral economic conglomerate, has been assigned to mobilise funds to complement capital from the state budget and the national COVID-19 Vaccine Fund.

In the document, the ministry (MoH) asked the RDIF to provide their utmost support to the Vietnamese counterpart (T&T) to close the deal on purchasing Sputnik V vaccines within July 2021.

The MoH has assigned T&T Group to negotiate with the Russian side for purchase of 40 million doses of Sputnik V vaccines

Earlier, Resolution No.73/NQ-CP of the prime minister stipulates that based on requirements from the vaccine producer, the premier had agreed with the proposal on signing an agreement on liability exemption of the producer on Sputnik V vaccine use, similar to the agreements the MoH signed when purchasing BNT162 vaccines of Pfizer and Vietnam Vaccine JSC (VNVC) signed for AZD1222 vaccines made by AstraZeneca.

T&T group has twice received the first-grade Labour Order and many other noble awards due to its eminent achievements and active contributions to the community.

The work also involves import licensing, vaccine quality control, and free vaccinations for the whole batch of 40 million doses of Sputnik V vaccines from the Russian Federation.

The Sputnik V vaccine is the first COVID-19 vaccine registered in the world. As of now, it was approved for use by more than 50 countries around the world.

According to clinical testing results announced on The Lancet magazine, Sputnik V vaccines have reported an efficiency rate of 91.6 per cent, with the rate even reaching 91.8 per cent for volunteers aged above 60.

After inoculation, 98 per cent of the volunteers have generated antibodies against COVID-19 viruses.

In Vietnam, Sputnik V vaccine was approved for emergency use by the MoH on March 23, and is the second vaccine licensed by the MoH after AstraZeneca.
