Three Chinese men jailed for using fake ATM cards

Hanoi People’s Court on Wednesday sentenced three Chinese men to prison for using fake ATM cards to withdraw some VND90 million ($4,000) in April last year.

The accused are Zhu Hai Rong, 41; Qiu Shui Binh, 42; and Zhong Jian Hua, 38. While Rong was sentenced to 42 months in prison, Binh and Hua got 36 months each.

According to investigation, in March 2017, an unknown Chinese national offered to pay each of the three men 5,000 Chinese yuan ($800) if they agreed to go to Vietnam and steal money using fake ATM cards.

On April 22, 2017, the three men arrived in Vietnam and stayed at a hotel in My Dinh 2 ward, Nam Tu Liem district in Hanoi. On April 22 and 23, they used dozens of ATM cards to withdraw some VND90 million ($4,000)

They were caught in the evening of April 23 when Hua was withdrawing money from an HSBC ATM and Bing from an ANZ ATM in Hoan Kiem district.
