This year, due to COVID-19, the contest had to change from its normal painting contest format to an online test on the theme “Learning about Denmark and Danish-Vietnamese diplomatic relations." In addition to answering 20 multiple-choice questions about Denmark and the Danish Vietnamese friendship, contestants also had a chance to propose a topic for the next Denmark in Your Eyes contest in 2021 and to suggest a slogan for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Vietnam in 2021.
The first Denmark In Your Eyes competition, co-hosted by the Embassy of Denmark and VIDAFA took place in 2016 |
The contest received huge support with nearly 16,000 submissions from school children nationwide in Vietnam. As members of the panel of judges, both the Chairman of VIDAFA, Vietnam's Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Danish Ambassador in Vietnam were pleased to see the high interest and great knowledge about Denmark and the Danish-Vietnamese long-term friendship shown by the contestants. The grand prize went to Nguyen Duc Vuong, a 15 years old student from Hung Yen.
In addition, twenty individual awards were given to students from Hanoi, Khanh Hoa, Tien Giang, Dong Nai, and Binh Thuan, among others.

"Next year, Denmark and Vietnam will celebrate our 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. We, therefore, feel lucky and privileged to have received so many good and inspiring suggestions from contestants for a slogan to celebrate this important occasion. These suggestions do not only reflect the long-term good friendship between Denmark and Vietnam but also boldly outline the bright future of the cooperation between our two countries. All these good ideas will be food for our considerations for next year’s celebration," said Ambassador of Denmark Kim Højlund Christensen at the award event.
The Denmark in Your Eyes 2020 contest is co-hosted by the Embassy of Denmark and the VIDAFA with support from the Ministry of Education and Training, Kim Dong Publishing House, and Thieu nien Tien phong and Nhi dong newspapers.
The first Denmark in Your Eyes competition, co-hosted by the Embassy of Denmark and VIDAFA, took place in 2016 during the celebration of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Denmark.
The competition has since then been organised on an annual basis – every year with a new theme. The grand prize-winner is awarded with a digital notepad. Besides, 20 winners will receive the organisers’ awards.
