In the morning of August 19, many trucks were parked at the headquarters of Ho Chi Minh City Office of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in District 1. They were waiting for goods which were then transported to hospitals and areas blocked due to COVID-19.
Standing in the warehouse, Hoang Mai Quynh Hoa, chief of the office of the committee, was checking and coordinating the goods for trucks. She said that since the resurgence of the pandemic, the warehouse has always been full of vegetables, fruit, drinking water, milk, and medical equipment donated by localities and businesses to the city’s efforts to combat COVID-19.
“We have received thousands of tonnes of goods from these generous hearts,” Hoa said. “We must distribute the goods as quickly as possible to those who need them so that they can soon overcome the difficulties.”
The most recent packages of goods were from TH Group which presented 1,000 packs of canned fresh milk and 1,000 packs of TH true TEA with a total of 72,000 products. These products will be transferred to hospitals where COVID-19 patients are being treated.
Sweating all over after hours of loading these goods on the trucks, Hoang The Manh (23), an employee from a furniture company in Ho Chi Minh City’s Thu Duc City, said while his company is halting operations due to social distancing, he acts as a volunteer to help the city in this anti-pandemic battle.
“What I can do is nothing compared to what the doctors and nurses are doing for the community, but I'm happy to contribute to the best of my ability,” Manh said.
After being loaded on the trucks by volunteers like Manh, the TH true TEA packages are transported to the different areas across the city. One of the trucks carrying 60 packs of tea products was driven by Huynh Ngo Dong to two hospitals in Binh Thanh district.
“I cannot remember how many times I have transported products like this over the past month. I often leave home at 6am and return home late at night,” Dong said.
It was at 10am that Dong’s truck stopped at a hospital, where a caregiver and a guardian quickly came out to receive 30 packages of TH true TEA. The products will be given directly to the doctors, nurses, and other medical staff at the hospital.
“We are moved by the support and affection businesses have been showing us. This is great encouragement for us to accomplish all tasks,” said caregiver Nguyen Thi Xuan Ai (37). “This hospital was established on August 1, and since then it has received many types of goods from businesses. Today we received the TH true TEA products, a tasty and healthy drink.”
Like Ai, doctor Vu Bien Luan also received TH true TEA at Field Hospital No.5 in District 5. He said he and other doctors treasure all affection and support from all enterprises and individuals and draw great motivation from them.
“We are doing our best to treat patients. Together with support from enterprises, we will triumph over the COVID-19 pandemic,” Luan said.
It was noon already but at the warehouse of the Ho Chi Minh City’s Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in District 1 people and drivers were still busy, never stopping in their work of carrying goods donated by businesses and individuals to different areas of the city to help those in need.
Since the appearance of COVID-19 early last year, TH Group and BAC A BANK via the Vietnamese Stature Foundation have donated many types of products including medical equipment worth a total of VND90 billion (over $3.9 million) for the country to push back the COVID-19 pandemic.
