Tran De Port has been classified as a Type III seaport, belonging to the Group 5 of seaports, meaning potential for advancement into a special seaport as it forms the gateway port for the Mekong Delta region, according to the decade-long master plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system approved by the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The construction of Tran De Port will enable Soc Trang province to facilitate the import and export of goods, enhance connectivity, reduce transportation costs, and increase the volume of goods transferred to seaports in the Southeastern region, thereby driving the socioeconomic growth of the area.

Ho Quoc Luc, chairman of the Board of Directors of SaoTa Food JSC in Soc Trang province, said that in recent years, the company's export shipments had been concentrated at Cat Lai Port and Cai Mep Port.

The transport route to these two ports is narrow and long, with high traffic density and potential risks, such as late deliveries and high transport costs.

If Tran De Port becomes operational, it will be a significant advantage, reducing transportation costs by a little over $833,000 per year.

From March 19 to 21, Soc Trang welcomed a delegation of 50 large Chinese enterprises operating in various sectors ranging from agriculture, forestry, and fisheries to logistics, seeking investment, cooperation, and business opportunities in Soc Trang.

During the meeting with Chinese enterprises, Tran Quoc Lau, Chairman of Soc Trang People's Committee, introduced the advantages of the locality.

"Soc Trang has an annual rice output and seafood production of over two million tonnes, and 375,000 tonnes per year, respectively. The total export value has reached over $1.5 billion, with rice accounting for nearly one-third," said Lau.

Additionally, Soc Trang is also implementing several major projects, including Chau Doc-Can Tho-Tran De Expressway, Dai Ngai Bridge connecting Soc Trang with Tra Vinh and further to Ho Chi Minh City.

Additionally, Soc Trang currently has five national highways connecting with other localities in the region, not to mention its river and sea routes.
