A wood processing magnate and five of his family members were killed in a massacre in the southern province of Binh Phuoc early today, July 7, while his youngest daughter survived the tragedy.

Le Van My, 48, his 42-year-old wife, Nguyen Le Thi Anh Nga, and their two children and two relatives were found unresponsive inside their villa in Chon Thanh District at 7:00 am, according to a report by local authorities obtained by Tuoi Tre News.

The villa is surrounded by high walls, whereas his wood processing facility is located next to the house.

The six slain people are the couple, their 20-year-old daughter Le Thi Anh Linh, 15-year-old son Le Quoc Anh, 18-year-old relative Du Ngoc To Nhu and 14-year-old relative Du Minh Vy, the Chon Thanh People's Committee said in the report.

All of them were murdered and had their throats cut, according to the report.

My’s youngest daughter, aged one year and a half, survived the massacre, police officers said without elaborating how.

At 7:00 am, Doan Thi Cam Loan, the family’s housemaid, came to begin her work when she found the couple and their 15-year-old son lying dead on the floor, the Chon Thanh report said.

Loan then ran upstairs, only to find the slain Linh and Nhu in their bedroom, the report said.

The maid shouted for help and called local police. When officers came, they discovered Vy behind the villa’s gate.

The massacre is said to be committed out of a conflict between My and his competitors.

Gang members from other localities must have been hired to carry out the murder, according to some police officers.

“The massacre must have been pre-planned and perpetrated by many people,” an on-site police officer told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on the phone.

Police have arrested a suspect and are hunting for those at large, according to a source close to the matter.

The wood processing magnate was known as one of the richest in the district, and his facility, with around 100 workers, is among the largest of its kind in Binh Phuoc.
