Microsoft Vietnam plans to continue promoting and exploiting the potential of information technology (IT) in Vietnam as the local demand for its products grows. Vu Minh Tri, country manager of Microsoft Vietnam, talked with VIR’s Linh Mai.

What are the plans for Microsoft in Vietnam in 2013?
Microsoft’s corporate vision is to help people and businesses throughout the world realise their full potential. In everywhere we do business, aligning our corporate vision with the national priorities of the government is what drives our business and guides our corporate citizenship work. In Vietnam, Microsoft implements a number of global and locally customised programmes to contribute to achieve the Vietnamese government’s ICT 2020 vision to turn Vietnam into a global IT power.

The programmes aim to enhance the long-term partnership between the Vietnamese government and Microsoft, and demonstrate Microsoft’s strong commitments to cooperate and closely work with the Vietnamese government to accelerate the local ICT industry growth. By implementing these programmes, we also want to position Microsoft as an innovator and a leading provider of solutions all over the world to help people and businesses realise their full potential.

How do you assess the accelerating consumerisation of IT products?
A series of technology trends is leading to rapid progress and change in the technology we use at home, which in turn is influencing how we expect to use technology for work and drives the consumerisation of IT. As these technology trends converge with social and business trends, the role that technology plays throughout our lives will continue to evolve. And consumerisation of IT is driven by a widening ecosystem of computers in which virtually any type of product can be connected to the internet, an explosion in data driven by the significant increase in the number of devices we use each day and more natural ways to interact with technology, including multitouch, voice, vision and gestures. In addition, consumerisation is also driven by light, portable, flexible, and cheap displays wherever they might be useful, social computing, which is altering the way we create and maintain connections with others and the cloud as a hub for orchestrating the flow of information and technology across our lives and nearly infinite storage and processing power.

Mobility devices requirements are developing. What’s Microsoft’s plan for  addressing this?
The way people work has changed dramatically during the last decade. People use technology in their home and at work interchangeably. They’re mobile and expect access from anywhere.

Technology at home is rapidly becoming central and people don’t want to give up the convenience of their personal devices and services when they enter the workplace. Meanwhile, enterprises also realise a number of benefits from the consumerisation of IT trend with the right approach.

The key is to strike a balance between user expectations and enterprise requirements for security, privacy, control, and compliance. There are four key areas where Microsoft can help  embrace and make the most of the consumerisation trend. They are windows-based devices, security and management, productivity and application development.

In this difficult economy, how can technology applications help Vietnamese companies be more competitive?
To create a competitive position, in order to survive and develop, it requires businesses or individuals to find technological solutions to manage and operate the most efficient, productive way anytime, anywhere. It can be seen that the technology holding a “mission” is important in helping to change the situation and create success for businesses and for individuals. Helping corporations, companies and individual citizens to enjoy the maximum benefits that technology can bring to their life and work is our big goal.
