Chips have become a global battleground, and Vietnam is no exception. MediaTek has confirmed its strong presence, holding nearly 49 per cent market share in the mobile processor segment in Vietnam.

MediaTek, a global wireless semiconductor company, connects nearly 2 billion devices annually. Headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan, with 25 offices worldwide, it became one of the world's four largest IC design firms by 2013. Since its establishment in 1997, MediaTek has been creating chipset solutions for the global market.

MediaTek leads the market in developing innovative system-on-chip solutions for mobile devices, home entertainment, connectivity, and the Internet of Things (IoT). These include power-efficient mobile technologies, automotive solutions, and a range of advanced multimedia products such as smartphones, tablets, digital TVs, 5G, voice assistant devices, and wearable technology.

In Vietnam, MediaTek is actively partnering with telecom operators like FPT, Viettel, and VNPT. These partnerships, which began during the Wi-Fi 4 era, have continued through Wi-Fi 5 and are now transitioning to Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7.

Simultaneously, MediaTek is also accelerating the deployment of 5G networks in Vietnam. Additionally, some telecom operators are developing their own IoT platforms, and MediaTek will integrate its chipsets into these IoT platforms to enhance their capabilities. These collaborations are expected to expand beyond telecommunications to include smart home services, smart cities, and traffic management.

Currently, MediaTek emphasises its partnerships, which have become even closer with local companies to design custom chips specifically for the Vietnamese market. The Taiwanese company also hinted at positive developments in the electric vehicle market in Vietnam, providing robust solutions related to Wi-Fi, GPS, 5G, and interactive displays for both cars and electric motorcycles.
