A campaign was launched in Lap Vo district, the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap, with a tree planting ceremony and a seminar on energy, attracting the participation of more than 500 students.

Meanwhile, in the northern province of Thai Nguyen, the campaign drew more than 5,000 people who signed to commit to switching off at least one light in at least 60 minutes on March 30 night.

The northern mountainous province of Lao Cai also organised a meeting in response to Earth Hour, spreading the message of “Save energy, save the earth.”

As part of activities within the campaign, a massive ride bike was held with the participation of many organisations and individuals in the locality, aiming to raise public awareness of Earth Hour.

The Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It has been described as the largest world grassroots movement for the environment, with the involvement of around 7,000 cities in 172 countries and territories so far.

In Vietnam, activities responding to the Earth Hour are coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade with the support of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN). EVN has been the main sponsor of the Earth Hour movement in the country for 10 consecutive years, since Vietnam joined the campaign in 2009.
