A fire broke out at the wastewater treatment facility of LG Display's complex located in Paju, Gyeonggi on Wednesday. No one was seriously injured, but nine workers were hospitalised. The fire broke out at 2:54 PM and was completely extinguished some four and a half hours later.
LG Display Co. said that on Thursday its production line located north of Seoul was partially shut down for 14 hours due to the fire. The company said the production line of OLED and LCD panels was partially shut down as of 6:30 PM (local time) and was resumed at 9:00 AM on Thursday.
The display maker said the production line initially operated normally as the fire broke out at a separate part of the plant, but it later decided to stop operations for safety reasons as the fire was not extinguished immediately. The company said it has yet to determine the damage caused by the halt.
LG Display has nine assembly facilities in Gyeonggi, Gyeongsang (South Korea), and seven manufacturing facilities in China, Poland, and Mexico.
Last December, an LG Display factory was inaugurated in Haiphong city with the total investment of $1.59 billion on an area of 52.5-hectares. The facility produces OLED displays for mobile devices with the capacity of eight million products and 100,000 OLED TVs a month.
LG Display employs about 50,000 people over the world.
