INSEE Vietnam: contributing to the nation’s development
INSEE Vietnam

Established cement producer and waste management group INSEE believes that the world would be better if everything it builds could make life worth living. Understanding that the key to unlocking this lies in sustainable development, it is continuously researching and challenging conventional thinking to implement the circular economy concept in all its manufacturing processes.

INSEE Vietnam is currently utilising waste heat from its kiln coolers to generate power and reduce reliance on the grid. This waste-heat recovery offers enormous benefits for the economy, society, and environment, meeting 25 per cent of the plant’s electricity demand – enough to provide electricity for 18,000 households for a whole year – relieving pressure on the national grid and generating around 6MW of power.

This system enables INSEE Vietnam to indirectly eliminate approximately 25,000 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to 9,300 tonnes of coal each year.

People are another main pillar of INSEE’s sustainable development plan. The company’s priority on employee health and safety is apparent in the advanced safety procedures in place as well as the strong investment in modern technology and protocols to create a healthy working environment. In addition, the INSEE benefit package was designed to maximise physical and mental protection for the company’s employees and even their families.

Striving to build excellent human resources, INSEE Vietnam keeps constant focus on talent development throughout the organisation through various initiatives including Enterprise-based Vocational Education, Junior Engineer Trainees, Graduate Development Programme, Leadership Development Programme, and supervisor development programmes. INSEE provides the best opportunities for employees to train, develop, and improve their skills while simultaneously recognising their contributions by an effective and impartial internal management team.

Looking beyond the company walls, INSEE Vietnam is operating various strategic corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes on supporting education development, sustainable community building, and local infrastructure development. Throughout the course of 2019, the company deployed 29 community projects with a total value of nearly $374,000 and more than 75,000 beneficiaries. Last year, INSEE also implemented outstanding funding projects such as accompanying the “Bring fresh water to Mekong Delta” project and constructing Kien Binh 2 School in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang.

The latter project tied in with educational development, a central direction for the company’s CSR activities. Every year, the company signs framework agreements with selective universities to cooperate in staging activities for students such as technical seminars and internships. The highlight of these programmes is the INSEE Prize, which has been held annually since 2009. This is a competition for students of construction and engineering to help them discover and realise their ideas, concept of sustainable development, and find balance among the three criteria of environment, economy, and society.

Throughout more than 11 years of organising the competition, the INSEE Prize has put eight projects in practice, distilled from more than 3,000 ideas submitted from 43 universities. These projects have served to better the lives of more than 5,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries.

INSEE Vietnam is a member of Siam City Cement Pcl., one of the market leaders in the construction materials industry in the region. The company has more than 1,000 employees working across five different cement production sites and headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City.

Since 1994, INSEE Vietnam has been one of the leading cement and drymix producers and waste management companies. Its sustainable products have been used in iconic buildings and infrastructure projects, as well as countless housing and commercial developments across the south of the country.

INSEE Vietnam in 2020 offered a further VND500 million ($21,700) to support coronavirus prevention and help people suffering from severe drought and saline intrusion in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang.

The leading cement group has given a total of VND2 billion ($87,000) to accompany people in the fight against salinity, drought, and COVID-19.

While the entire country has been united in overcoming the coronavirus situation, the complicated developments of these issues in Mekong Delta provinces continues to seriously affect production and people’s lives.

As a long-term foreign investor in Vietnam, INSEE has put sustainable development at the top of its core values, leading all activities and responsibilities.

INSEE made the Kien Giang contribution in response to a call from the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee. It offered just over $10,000 to Kien Giang Relief Committee, as well as donated face masks and hand sanitisers at a value of $6,500. In addition, the company provided 1,000 bags of INSEE Extra Durable cement to support anti-saline construction projects and houses in the province.
