First international tea festival to be held in Vietnam

An international tea festival will be held in the northern province of Thai Nguyen in November, the first of its kind in Vietnam.

This is a chance for tea companies in Vietnam, and particularly Thai Nguyen, to discuss ways to cooperate with local and international partners.

The event is scheduled to open in Thai Nguyen City and Ho Nui Coc Tourism Resort on November 11, running through the 15. It will include many events, such as forums which will showcase new products, the culture of tea and even a beauty contest.

Other activities will include an international tourism and trade fair, a market for food of the countryside and boat races.

Businesses from 10 countries and 30 cities and provinces in Vietnam - including 25 tea traders from all across the nation- as well as representatives from 50 traditional handicraft villages, will attend the event which is expected to attract 400,000 visitors.

The tea brand Thai Nguyen has appeared in many foreign markets, including China, Pakistan, India, Japan and the US.

Last year, Thai Nguyen exported 6,400 tonnes of tea, which brought in a $8.6 million value, which up by 18.8 per cent compared to 2009. The major importers of are China, Taiwan, Pakistan, Russia, Japan and Germany.

Vietnam is the fifth largest tea exporter in the world. In the first quarter of this year, the country exported 4,000 tonnes of tea, bringing in a value of $33 million.
