The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a global body for professional accountants, sealed agreements with three Vietnamese universities at a signing ceremony in London yesterday.

The memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed with the Foreign Trade University, the Academy of Finance, and the University of Economics under the University of Danang at the Vietnam-UK Education Forum, themed “Connecting Opportunities for Sustainable Education Partnerships”.

The forum was held by Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training, the Embassy of Vietnam and the British Council with support from UK Higher Education International Unit and the association (ACCA) to celebrate the 5th anniversary of strategic partnership establishment between Vietnam and the UK.

The partnership between ACCA and the universities will equip graduates for their future working lives, giving them opportunities to experience the world of work.

Helen Brand OBE, chief executive of ACCA, said, “These are landmark agreements for ACCA in Vietnam, which will see ACCA and these prominent universities work on developing high-quality programmes in accounting.”

“There is growing demand for professionally qualified accountants in Vietnam, and indeed the wider ASEAN economic region. So these agreements with such prestigious universities aim to meet that demand,” Helen added.

Dao Thi Thu Giang, vice president from Vietnam’s Foreign Trade University commented, “Through this programme, students will be fully equipped with core practical knowledge in all areas of finance and accountancy. It will ensure they gain the complete skill set to be a finance professional, able to work in a broad range of industries.”

“In the current climate, employers are looking for ‘work ready’ graduates. Today graduates are not just competing for jobs with counterparts from the university in their own country, but those from other countries especially within the wider ASEAN countries. So this link between the Academy of Finance and ACCA really matters,” said Nguyen Trong Co, rector from the Academy of Finance.

Len Le – head of Mekong, ACCA concluded, “Graduates need the employability skills and positive attitude that employers value in every new recruit with many new jobs requiring specialist or technical knowledge. Through these agreements, ACCA will equip graduates to be grounded in all areas of business and finance to ensure truly forward looking ‘business ready’ finance professionals who can help grow the business.”

ACCA Vietnam was established in 2002 with an office in Ho Chi Minh City. An office was opened in Hanoi in 2004. Since opening its offices, ACCA Vietnam has also signed a MoU with the Ministry of Finance to provide training for finance professionals conducting state audits.
