According to the Overseas Worker Management Department under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, most of the workers were sent to Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. This year, Vietnam plans to send 120,000 workers overseas.
The number of Vietnamese workers sent to work abroad last year totalled 140,000, increasing nearly 7% over 2017. This was the fifth consecutive year the number increased.
Japan has continued to be a popular destination for Vietnamese workers as the number of workers choosing the country to work has sharply risen.
Vietnam surpassed the benchmark of 10,000 workers sent to Japan in 2013. The figure reached over 30,000 in 2015; 54,000 in 2017 and 69,000 in 2018.
