>> Vietnam Airlines receives Airbus A330-200
These are the first direct flights from Vietnam to the United Kingdom and bring Vietnam Airlines’ number of direct weekly flights between Vietnam and Europe to 29.
Trinh Hong Quang, deputy general director of Vietnam Airlines, said the national flag carrier would increase flight frequency to London to seven flights per week from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in 2015.
“The opening of air routes between Vietnam and the United Kingdom will help Vietnam Airlines to further improve services to the Europe, meet travel demand and promote investment cooperation, trade and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and the United Kingdom in particular and the Europe in general,” Quang said.
The United Kingdom is the third largest investing European country in Vietnam, following the Netherlands and France, with total registered capital of around $3 billion. The number of passengers from the United Kingdom to Vietnam rose 12.3 per cent on average during the past five years.
