Weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan takes three medals at world championships

Vietnam weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan has won three bronze medals in the men’s 56kg weight class at the ongoing World Weightlifting Championships in Poland.

In the clean and jerk event, Tuan succeeded with his first lift of 126 kg, but failed at his other two lifts of 130 kg and 131 kg. The gold and silver medals went to Long Qingquan from China and Om Yun Chol from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), who lifted 130 kg and 127 kg, respectively.

Tuan also finished third in the snatch event, bested again by his Chinese and DPRK rivals. He earned his third bronze with a total lift of 285 kg, 4 kg below gold medalist Om Yun Chol (DPRK) and 2 kg below the silver medalist Long Qingquan (China).

Vietnam’s Tran Le Quoc Toan came in fourth in the clean and jerk, with 125kg, and in the overall, with 278kg.

The 2013 World Weightlifting Championships in Wroclaw, Poland began on October 20 and runs until October 27, bringing together 317 weightlifters from 59 countries.

The Vietnamese team roster includes Tran Le Quoc Toan and Thach Kim Tuan, as well as Hoang Tan Tai in the men’s 85 kg weight class and Do Thi Thu Hoai in the women’s 48kg.
