After the successful Vinschool Inter-Level School model, Vingroup has taken one step further in education with the not-for-profit private VinUni, built on par with international standards. Integrating an elite model of global education, VinUni aspires to create a breakthrough in the quality of higher education in Vietnam.

“VinUni’s mission is to educate and train individuals who are knowledgeable, capable, and passionate about contributing to improving themselves and societal conditions, inspiring the current and next generations, and making lasting positive impacts on global development,” said Le Mai Lan, vice chairwoman of Vingroup and managing director of the VinUni project.

Instead of studying abroad, students in Vietnam are now being offered training programmes from renowned elite universities, exclusively designed to suit the Vietnamese educational environment.

“VinUni is not a university of the rich but for talented people. And to train talented people, it is necessary to have elite universities in Vietnam,” said Lan.

According to Hoang Ngoc Vinh, former director of the Department of Professional Education, Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam is lacking a leading team that can create development motivation. “A world-class university model like VinUni is crucially needed,” he emphasised.

Mai Trong Nhuan, former director of Vietnam National University Hanoi said, “Everything should be elite – elite trainers, elite trainees, elite management, elite environment and elite finance,” he said.

Realising the vision, VinUni has been built based on the world's highest standards in research, teaching, employment, and internationalisation in order to develop a comprehensive university governance system, especially in reviewing facilities, recruiting key positions, developing teaching and research capacities, and designing and validating educational programmes.

To that end, VinUni has been built based on the world's highest standards in research, teaching, employment, and internationalisation. VinUni is not alone in this journey thanks to a strategic collaboration between Vingroup, and two of the Top 20 Universities in the world, Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania. Besides that, VinUni is extending collaborations with elite universities worldwide in order to develop a comprehensive university governance system, especially in reviewing facilities, recruiting key positions, developing teaching and research capacities, and designing and validating educational programmes. VinUni also aims to meet the world-class standards and rankings in higher education, such as Quacquarelli Symonds and Times Higher Education.

In order to gain admissions to VinUni, students go through a holistic admission process with an online application and an in-person assessment. Applicants can be citizens who have completed high school, or international citizens who will earn an international or British baccalaureate before September 2020.

Most of the lectures will be provided in English by professors and lecturers from prestigious universities, research institutes, and hospitals, with comprehensive programmes from vocational and leadership training to applied and fundamental training. Students will study in a world-class educational environment, have access to educational technology, simulation equipment, and the most advanced labs.

Simultaneously, VinUni will create the best conditions for students to experience practical education at the international university and do internships in the companies of Vingroup as well as in leading domestic and foreign enterprises, helping potential students become future leaders. “VinUni has sponsored STEM movements and hackathons in many high schools nationwide and we are confident about the potential of Vietnamese candidates,” Verma added.
