Several locals disagree with the present project of setting up permanent kiosks along the street.
Tây Hồ District People’s Committee, however, said the inauguration is being postponed to better prepare for the opening ceremony.
The initiative of creating a cultural space for showcasing art performances and cuisines is approved by most people. However, there are concerns the permanent kiosks will take up space on the public pavement and result in a negative impact on the neighbourhood.
“I like the idea of a walking street, but the local authority must have solutions and regulations to keep it clean,” Đỗ Thị Giá, a resident of Ward 2, Tây Hồ District, said.
“We totally agree if the authority makes use of this space for leisure and culture. However, turning it to a market is unacceptable,” Nguyễn Ngọc Hồng, another resident, stressed.
Responding to peoples’ feedback on permanent kiosks, Nguyễn Đình Khuyến, deputy head of Tây Hồ District People’s Committee, said that all opinions have been recorded. Following the discussion with nearly 300 families living in the area, it was decided to postpone the opening ceremony.
